Week 1: Project Creation

For this project, I will be managing it using the software "Jira." Jira allows me to visualise the tasks I need to do on a timeline and priorities the most important parts of the project. This will help with maintaining the scope of the project, as it could easy go out of hand.

In terms of the actual project, there are a few ideas that I have. The first is a negotiation interaction between the player and an NPC. The idea is that they player would be able to negotiate the terms of a job/contract and the outcome of the conversation would be different depending on the choices that the player makes. The player would also be able to learn narrative through the interaction. I'd like to create a cinematic experience.

Inspirations (Interaction and Narrative)

Detroit Become Human

What I like: Non-Player Characters remember the decisions that the player makes and it actually impacts the way the player can interact with certain NPCs.

Until Dawn

What I like: Quick time event choices

The Walking Dead

The Last of us

What I Like: Player movements trigger dialogue/action events from NPCs

In looking further at the interactions found in these games, I found that the games did a very good job at fleshing out the narrative aspect, but some of the dialogue felt "wooden" and some fo the games overused "quick time events." (Cheeda, 2021)

Asset List (so far)

I'm likely going to try and source as many of these assets as I can for the sake of 1) maintaining the scope of the task and 2) being able to focus on the interactions rather than the environment.
