Week 5: Cutscenes

Image
So far in the production I have grey boxed my scene and planned out the character path.  The above slide shows my current grey boxing and also the beginning of the storyboard that I have begun to put together. It also mentions the challenges that I have had with the newest version of unreal engine; a problem that was solved by switching versions. Unfortunately, this means that my production plan has fallen behind a little bit. I have finished planning he flow of the dialogue and have begun to implement it into unreal engine; this was playtested in Twine by a few of my peers to see if the dialogue flowed well and made sense and will be playtested as soon as it's fully implemented into the engine.  The bottom corner image in this slide shows the intended path for the player to take.

Week 4: Production Plan

Project Timeline Using Jira, I am able to very clearly visualise the project timeline and stay on top of all of my tasks (listed left). Current Scripting I began scripting character action using a google doc, before switching to twine, where it was much easier to visualise and connect branching dialogue action. Progress Reflection I believe that at this point in the production of my project, I'm mostly where I need to be. I'll begin scripting the dialogue over the break week and well as properly grey boxing the Vertical Slice level I have planned. As the interaction is focusing on dialogue, I want it to be compelling and interesting, which is why I'm focusing so heavily on the flow of the dialogue.  I do think that perhaps I should be further along in terms of the character controller and planning the camera movement, but over the break week I will also begin to storyboard the action. I want the camera movement to feel a bit more dynamic than just a regular first person sce...

Week 3: Character Interactions

Image
Consider your game idea and character interactions: What Genre best describes this game? The best genre to describes the game that I ended up settling on would be action- adventure game. I elected to not go with the horror idea based on the urban legend that I proposed last week, as it isn't easy to create a "horror" style game without it feeling "goofy." Instead, my idea would be more inspired by larger narrative style games. The specific interaction is a conversation. What are the technical requirements for the interaction to occur. In order to implement the interaction that I'd be going for, I'd need to create a dialogue tree and trigger character interactions. I'd need to make the flow of the interaction feel natural by adjusting timing and delivery of dialogue. Presentation Slides: "The player character is a mercenary who travels around, completing jobs. The player has been offered a job and is going to meet the contractor to negotiate th...
